Comedy at the Gate

Mark Steel & Friends - Comedy at the Gate is back

Due to popular demand we are delighted to announce the third instalment of  'Comedy at the Gate' as Mark Steel and Friends come to Ashton Gate Stadium! The new date is Saturday 12th December at 8pm (postponed from the original date of Saturday, November 14th)

Sony and Writers’ Guild Award-winning writer and comedian, Mark Steel is best known for his critically acclaimed BBC Radio 4 show Mark Steel’s in Town.

Mark has also presented the BAFTA-nominated Mark Steel Lectures for BBC Two and is a regular on BBC One’s Have I Got News For You and BBC Radio 4’s The News Quiz. Please note Mark’s support acts will be announced in due course so watch this space!

Mark will be joined by two other fantastic comedians, the first of which being 'one to watch' Louise Young.

Hailing from Newcastle, Geordie comic Louise has rapidly built a reputation as a strong comic presence. She was a finalist in Funny Women 2017 and the Frog and Bucket World Series 2018 and a semi-finalist in both the Leicester Square New Comedian of the Year 2018 and So You Think You’re Funny 2019. Louise was also nominated for the Leicester Mercury Comedian Of The Year 2020.

"Louise Young is dynamite! Intelligent and street smart, she wins the entire room over with wonderfully written jokes, a spellbinding stage presence and the timing of a 20-year pro." Punch Drunk Comedy

Her laid back style, warmth and wonderfully crafted, razor sharp jokes have seen her becoming in great demand on the comedy circuit and have led to her being the host of a weekly comedy radio show on BBC Newcastle and Tees, the Grin Up North Show.

She was a finalist in Funny Women 2017 and the Frog and Bucket World Series 2018 and a semi-finalist in both the Leicester Square New Comedian of the Year 2018 and So You Think You’re Funny 2019.

Compering the evening is the incredibly versatile Andy Robinson.

Andy has performed over 4000 gigs all over the place, including Glee Clubs and Comedy Stores, as well as being a warmup artist for many popular television shows, such as Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Shooting Stars, Later with Jools Holland, Jonathan Ross and many more.

Andy regularly picks up awards for his weekly comedy night at Birmingham Glee Club Comedy Carousal, winning Best Midlands Club Night at the Chortle Awards in 2015, and has picked up several Midlands Comedy Awards for Best Compete and Act in 2014, and most recently Best Club Night in 2018 and 2019.

Andy has been the support act for Sean Lock, Rich Hall and Paddy McGuiness, and is known as comedy legend Jo Brand's regular support act, having worked with her for the past ten years.

"Andy Robinson is an absolute joy to work with... self-deprecating, generous, very funny and relaxed" Jo Brand
