A film director is launching a search in Bristol for two stars of the future to appear in his latest movie.
Kirk Jones, a Bristol-born movie director, is returning to his home town for his latest project and is looking for youngsters born and brought up in the city to take the two main roles.
And he is eager to recruit youngsters who have not come from a stage school background to make his film as realistic as possible.
The 44-year-old – who directed the films Nanny McPhee and Waking Ned – is hoping to unearth hidden talent at a series of auditions which will be held at Bristol City's ground Ashton Gate next month.
The film is being be cast by Pippa Hall who found the child stars who appeared in Nanny McPhee and the Narnia films. She also discovered Jamie Bell who became a star after appearing in Billy Elliot.
The organisers say no acting experience is needed but they are looking for two boys aged between nine and 12 who grew up in the Bristol area and have plenty of character.
The auditions are taking place at Ashton Gate on August 4, 5 and 6 and further sessions are planned for later in the month. Large crowds are expected and people are being warned to be patient.
Mr Jones, a father of two, is known for directing quirky British comedies. After graduating from film school in Newport in South Wales, Mr Jones went on to work in commercials before setting up his own film production company.
He said: "I grew up in Bristol and am looking forward to returning and meeting local children. I would encourage anyone who feels they have something to offer to come along for a short informal audition and be considered.
"This is a film project that I hope will feature real people and genuine characters who need not have had any acting experience. The auditions will be no more complicated than a quick chat so its low pressure. Just turn up and be yourself."
The aspiring actors will need to be accompanied by an adult over the age of 18 and are being encouraged to bring along their parents.
The first round of auditions will be held between 11am and 4pm. People coming to the stadium by car can enter the ground from Winterstoke Road where parking will be available.
